As Access and Policy Project Manager, you will work in the Access and Policy Team at Myeloma Patients Europe. You will assist the MPE Leadership Team with the following activities (and progressively manage your own projects):

 

Project management (approximately 40% of role)

The Access and Policy Project Manager will represent MPE in a new and exciting Horizon Europe project. ASCERTAIN is a 4-year project, led by Erasmus University, looking at new models of medicines pricing, reimbursement and health technology assessment. MPE is representing the patient voice across core work packages to provide feedback on current models and to ensure the outputs developed benefit patients across Europe. It is anticipated that the new Access and Policy Project Manager will:

  • Implement a range of patient involvement activities across ASCERTAIN work packages, as agreed in the project plan, on topics including medicines pricing and access – in collaboration with the MPE Management Team.
  • Develop communications materials on ASCERTAIN developments and outputs.
  • Attend consortium meetings as and when needed.
  • Monitor project progress/milestone and contribute to project reporting, as instructed by the European Commission and MPE Finance Manager.

Access tasks (approximately 40% of role)

  • Content identification (on developments relating to access to treatment and care) and management of the Myeloma Access Atlas, the flagship MPE access programme: https://atlas.mpeurope.org
  • Engage with MPE members on their work relating to access (relating to diagnosis, treatment and care) and monitor/seek insights into the challenges faced at a national level.
  • Assist our members with training on relevant topics and developing potential strategies to overcome national access challenges, in collaboration with MPE Management Team.
  • Engage with MPE industry partners on topics relating to access, as needed.

Policy, access and regulatory affairs (approximately 20% of role)

  • Proactively monitor EU policy developments impacting on patient access to treatment and care. It is anticipated this will primarily focus on the EU regulation on health technology assessment and the revision of the EU general pharmaceutical legislation.
  • Identify relevant policy opportunities and write policy positions, reports and consultation responses to relevant policy opportunities at a European level (in line with the above policy topics), as agreed with line manager.
  • Represent MPE at meetings, events and on committees, as required.

Task and core responsibilities are non-exhaustive and subject to change depending on the needs of the organisation.

 

About you

Essential

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related topic, such as health policy, public health, etc.
  • 3 -5 years of demonstrable experience in an area such as project management, policy/public affairs or advocacy work at a national or European level
  • Experience of working with high-level stakeholders such as political representatives, pharmaceutical industry stakeholders or regulatory bodies
  • Excellent capacity for analysis and communicating (verbally and in writing) clearly for a range different audiences
  • Understanding of how medicines are developed and made available to patients (particularly regulation, licensing and reimbursement)
  • Proficient level of both written and spoken English
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks
  • Confidence in representing an organisation in meetings with external stakeholders at all levels

 

Desirable

  • Knowledge and experience in health policy at national or European level
  • Knowledge and experience in supporting access to treatment and care for patients, either nationally or internationally
  • Extensive knowledge of / experience topics such as drug pricing, reimbursement and clinical trials and access inequalities across Europe
  • Experience of working in a non-profit organisation
  • Experience of working in European patient advocacy
  • Advanced degree in a relevant topic (health policy, social policy, public health, etc)

About MPE

Myeloma Patients Europe (MPE) is a pan-European organisation representing 49 myeloma and amyloidosis patient groups from over 31 European countries. It is registered as an international non-profit organisation under Belgian Law. A Board mainly composed of patients and caregivers is elected by the membership to oversee the strategy and governance of the organisation. A team of 13 staff members runs remotely the day to day operations, programmes and services within 4 divisions: Access and Policy, Clinical Science, Capacity Building & Advocacy and Patient Evidence.

MPE is dedicated to improving the treatment, care and quality of life of patients with myeloma and AL Amyloidosis. To this end, the main goals of the organisation are:

  • Collaborating on projects to the benefit of the myeloma community
  • Exchanging information and best practice
  • Developing existing patient groups and encouraging and facilitating the setting up of new groups
  • Helping to shape appropriate health-related policies and initiatives on a European and national level
  • Ensuring patients across Europe receive timely access to new treatment
  • Stimulating and promoting patient-centred research and clinical trials
  • Developing a strong evidence base for the needs and wants of patients and their role in research
  • Providing information, educational and outreach programmes to member groups
