TASKS and core responsibilities (non-exhaustive and subject to change depending on needs of the organisation):

Harmony Alliance (Big Data for Better Outcomes Programme)

• Coordination of MPE’s involvement in the EU projects IMI HARMONY and HARMONY PLUS
• Proactively think about topics and research questions that need addressing in myeloma
• Research and planning of effective and engaging content ideas for topics that matter to the European myeloma community
• Engagement with clinicians and other stakeholders involved in IMI HARMONY, as well as the work package leaders for patient involvement
• Representation of MPE at HARMONY meetings and calls
• Review of draft documents, providing feedback, and coordination of feedback from staff and myeloma community
• Coordination of all people involved and ensuring timelines are met

Scientific and Medical Programmes

MPE’s Medical and Scientific Advisory Board

• Develop and manage MPE’s Medical Advisory Board
• Establish an effective Scientific Advisory Board, involving myeloma key opinion leaders from across Europe to steer the work and strategy of MPE

Myeloma Clinical Trial Engine

• Build and manage the Myeloma Clinical Trial Engine, which shall list all clinical trials happening in myeloma in Europe
• Critically appraise and provide advice to MPE on academic and pharmaceutical clinical development programmes and design of clinical trials
• Provide advice on issues affecting conduction of research and clinical trials in Europe

Other responsibilities

• Contribute to the development of scientific education and information for MPE
• Build good relations with members, internal and external stakeholders (including doctors, researchers and medical representatives within companies), and represent MPE at meetings as required
• Attend scientific congresses, such as the European Haematology Association (EHA) Annual Congress and American Society of Haematology (ASH) Annual Scientific Meeting
• Participate in advisory boards for the pharmaceutical industry, as necessary
• Attend and respond to patient requests on myeloma, its diagnosis and treatment

About you:

• MD, PhD, PharmD or MSc and/or experience in relevant therapeutic areas or life sciences – preferably specifically in haematology
• 5+ years of experience in a related field – preferably working in a non-profit organisation, clinical research or medical/scientific setting
• Experience in working with researchers, doctors and representatives from the pharmaceutical industry
• Organised, with excellent project management and time management skills
• Ability to work from home in a virtual setting with a team spread across Europe
• Strong listening and communication skills
• Flexible approach and able to work with an international team in a virtual setting
• A motivated and self-aware team player, who can work independently or collaboratively with equal success
• Demonstrated excellence in writing, proofreading, and editing in English, preferably C2 level. German language skills are not required.
• Good analytical, numerical abilities and ability to interpret complex information
• Ability to explain complex scientific terms and knowledge into lay language
• Proficient at Office suite – Word, Excel, PowerPoint (or equivalent)

About MPE

Myeloma Patients Europe (MPE) is a pan-European organisation representing around 50 myeloma and amyloidosis patient groups from over 30 European countries. It is registered as an international non-profit organisation under Belgian Law. A Board mainly composed of patients and caregivers is elected by the membership to oversee the strategy and governance of the organisation. A team of ten staff members runs the day to day operations, programmes and services.

MPE is dedicated to improving the treatment, care and quality of life of patients with myeloma and AL Amyloidosis. To this end, the main goals of the organisation are:

• Collaborating on projects to the benefit of the myeloma community
• Exchanging information and best practice
• Developing existing patient groups and encouraging and facilitating the setting up of new groups
• Helping to shape appropriate health-related policies and initiatives on a European and national level
• Ensuring patients across Europe receive timely access to new treatment
• Stimulating and promoting patient-centred research and clinical trials
• Developing a strong evidence base for the needs and wants of patients and their role in research
• Providing information, educational and outreach programmes to member groups

About the HARMONY Alliance

Harmony Alliance, the Big Data For Better Outcomes Programme is an umbrella programme of the Innovative Medicines Initiative 2 (IMI2). IMI2 is a collaboration between the European Union and European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) and is the world’s largest public-private partnership (PPP) in the life sciences which funds more than 140 EU projects.

The HARMONY Alliance, consisting of the EU-funded IMI projects HARMONY (2017-2022) and the HARMONY-PLUS (2020-2023), helps improve the prognosis and outcome of patients with hematological cancers, driven by knowledge derived from the combination and analysis of complex data. Therefore, a core part of HARMONY is its Patient Cluster, which is currently made up of 7 pan-European patient organizations. Each of these organizations represents the 7 blood cancers HARMONY is researching. The HARMONY Patient Cluster plays an important role in designing research projects to make sure they reflect the patient view. The patient cluster is currently being extended.
