European Young Myeloma Patients Group

European Young Myeloma Patients Group logoWhile myeloma remains a cancer most often diagnosed in older adults, 37% of patients are younger than 65. Many resources designed to support older patients are available through national patient organisations, but there are gaps in services and information for younger patients, whose needs might differ. MPE’s European Young Myeloma Patients Group aims to address these unmet needs and provide a forum to discuss challenges and topics that are important to this patient population.

Through this platform, patients under the age of 55 and patients who may not be affiliated with a national organisation will have the opportunity to share experiences, provide support for each other, exchange educational resources and information, and discuss the latest treatment updates.

How does it work?

  • The group will host quarterly educational webinars and discussion sessions with experts to explore and tackle issues faced by young patients.
  • Discussion topics will be chosen by group members to ensure they are relevant to patients 55 and under.
  • Members will have access to a Facebook support group created to help European young myeloma patients have a community to lean on and share their experiences with other patients in similar stages of life.

Who can take part?

Myeloma patients who are 55 or younger and living in Europe.

Ana Rocha

Ana Rocha, from Portugal, was diagnosed with myeloma in July 2021 and classified as DSIII A, R-ISS 1, in an emergency hospital following multiple consultations spanning eight months. Post-diagnosis, it took nearly a month to start treatments, with the first cycle on her birthday, something she interpreted as a unique opportunity. Read her story here.

Snežana Doder

Snežana Doder, from Serbia, compares her journey to a roller coaster ride. Her diagnosis came unexpectedly during routine medical checkups, despite not experiencing any symptoms, she was ultimately diagnosed as a high-risk patient. Read her story here.
